High
School: Finney played for coach
Buster Kelso at Christian Brothers High School in Memphis. As a senior, Finney
batted .457 with 64 hits, 62 runs scored, 16 doubles, 28 runs batted in, and
33 stolen bases. He was a two-time member of the Sports Writers Division 2
All-State TeamThe Commercial Appeal’s All-Metro Team and was a finalist
for the Best of the Preps Player of the Year in 2004. Finney led CBHS to a
35-9 record and Division 2 state tournament runner-up his senior season. An
outstanding football player for CBHS, Finney was named all-metro and all-state
in both his junior and senior seasons and was twice selected Athlete of the
Week. As one of the top seniors in Shelby County, he was selected to play
in the Liberty Bowl All-Star Game, and received the Harris Jones Award. Finney
has had two poems published in poetry.com and American Poet Society.
Summer Ball:
In the summer of 2004,
Finney was selected to the 30-man roster for the USA Junior Olympic Team.
In 2003, Finney the Most Valuable Player of the National Amateur Baseball
Federation World Series. Finney also played summer ball for Dulin’s
Sports Academy, coached by Tim Dulin.
